Introduction to the Classes |
|
With the lack of availability in East Anglia for keeping alive a very old traditional skill, our aim has been to set up a teaching workshop where those with an interest in silversmithing can have the opportunity to practice this fascinating craft. Now in our third year the classes have gone from strength to strength with many people still with us from day one. Various projects have been undertaken from small jewellery items to larger items as tea pots, coffee pots and bowls. The sessions are of an open and varied nature and suitable for both beginners and more advanced students. The workshop is fully equipped with a comprehensive range of tools. It is light and airy in a rural setting with parking. Various techniques will be covered i.e. piercing, hand raising, soldering and casting to enable the student develop skills needed to produce silverware of their own design. Although working with silver is recommended, beginners may like to learn the basic techniques of the craft using alternative materials such as gilding metal or copper, which will be available. Precious metals cannot be supplied and advice on what is required can be discussed with the tutor.
